Home sellers: These are the top four things you can do to get your home ready to sell for a great price in the spring market.
If you’re planning to sell your home in the 2020 spring market, there are four key things you’ll want to do in advance to prepare:
1. Eliminate any off-putting odors. If you have pets or if you’re a smoker, your home might have some odors that you’re nose-blind to. Buyers can be scared away from listings with distasteful smells, so deep clean and give your home a nice scent. You can buy oil diffusers almost anywhere; I’ve even heard of some people putting vanilla extract in a glass baking dish and putting it in their oven at 200° for a few minutes to make the house smell like freshly baked cookies!
2. Declutter. When buyers come to look at your house, they need to be able to envision themselves living there; the less personal stuff that you have lying around will give them more room to picture themselves as the owner of your home.
3. Spruce up your curb appeal. Make sure your lawn is well-manicured and green. You can add flowers or new vegetation to increase your yard’s appeal, too. The important thing is to make sure prospective buyers see a clean-looking property when they pull up for a showing. Landscaping is a cost-effective way of making your property pop.
4. Paint. If, for example, your living room’s paint colors are outdated or chipped, go ahead and repaint it; you can buy paint at home goods stores like Lowe’s or Home Depot. Though it can be more expensive, adding a new coat of paint can make a huge difference.
